Stocks fall ahead of retail sales say the headlines. Subscribers already know retail sales are in trouble. Retail sales, a statistic that influences from 40% to 50% of GDP, are led by retail stocks. Retail stocks have been underperforming the S&P 500 for 3 weeks (See Retail Stocks to S&P 500 ratio). The computer describes the intermarket trend as

This is an early warning of at least a mid cycle economic contraction. This could be extremely dangerous for a highly leveraged, consumption driven economy, in which the consumers require constant stimulus to maintain spending.
