Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama sparked an online controversy after remarks about consciously supporting designers of color in her fashion choices went viral. In a conversation about her new fashion book The Look, she encouraged people to consider whose work they support in their wardrobes. Some social-media users misinterpreted or edited her comment to claim she was urging people to avoid white-owned brands, leading to racist accusations and heated debate online.
