Rising Electricity Cost, I Blame The Cat And My 100 IQ
As electricity bills climb, many Americans, a group that likes to point fingers, blames AI development as a key driver of rising energy costs. We blame the cat and our 100 IQ. A survey by Arbor revealed that 70% of households have noticed higher bills, with nearly two-thirds linking the increase to the massive energy demands of AI data centers, some consuming as much power as a small city. Only 20% feel AI’s benefits outweigh these costs. While electricity prices have been rising for years, AI infrastructure is intensifying the trend, particularly in regions like the Northeast. Most households are managing through personal sacrifices rather than political engagement, with 71% saying they can’t handle bill increases exceeding $20 monthly. Blame is directed at tech companies, government, and utilities, but over half of respondents would support AI expansion if it utilized clean energy sources.
