Modern Day Transports Reflects Deterioration In Europe
Dow Theory, developed by Charles H. Dow, is a framework for understanding market trends. Dow theorized that the market discounts everything—so much for conspiracy theorists today. He founded and tracked the Dow Industrial and Transportation averages. A key tenet of his theory was that the Dow Industrial and Transportation Averages must confirm each other by moving in the same direction for a trend to be valid. He also stated that volume must confirm the trend. These principles are often overlooked in today's social media-driven world.
An important update to Dow Theory would be the rise of the semiconductor sector as a modern leading indicator for the global economy. Like the Transportation sector of old, semiconductor stocks need to confirm rallies or declines. We watch semiconductor stocks very closely.
