Digitals IDs Will Be Forced
Over 1.6 million people have signed a petition opposing Labour's plan to introduce mandatory digital ID cards in the UK by 2029. Critics, including civil liberties groups and political opponents, argue the move threatens privacy and could lead to mass surveillance. Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended the plan, calling digital ID an opportunity to strengthen border control and streamline access to services. Despite public backlash and warnings about cybersecurity risks, the government insists it has no intention of creating a “dystopian” system.
