Tusk Backs Nord Stream Sabotage Suspect, Defying Germany and International Law
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that extraditing a Ukrainian man wanted by Germany for the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions is not in Poland's interest. Tusk criticized the pipelines, arguing they made Europe overly dependent on Russian energy. The suspect, Volodymyr Z., was detained near Warsaw, and a Polish court ordered his custody for 40 days to consider Germany's extradition request. Tusk indirectly criticized former German Chancellor Angela Merkel for authorizing Nord Stream 2, claiming it went against Europe's interests. The 2022 blasts are considered sabotage, with suspicions pointing to a group of Ukrainians linked to secret services, though Kyiv denies involvement.
