SNAP Overhaul?
The Trump administration plans to require millions of low-income Americans to reapply for food stamps as part of a broader push to reduce what it calls fraud in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said. Rollins provided few details but argued the move would ensure only truly vulnerable people receive benefits. Critics note that SNAP fraud is relatively rare and that recipients already undergo frequent recertification. The announcement follows a major funding cut to SNAP in the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which imposed new work requirements and other restrictions. Rollins also claimed that data from states show thousands of deceased individuals still listed as receiving benefits, though this assertion and her broader data-collection efforts are being legally challenged.
