Leaving California
California continues to experience significant resident and business out-migration despite official denials. U-Haul’s 2024 data shows more Californians left the state using one-way rentals than residents of any other state. Major corporations—including Chevron, SpaceX, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, and Toyota Motor North America—have relocated operations elsewhere, citing California’s high costs, regulatory burden, and business climate. Recent departures include GAF Energy, Blue Diamond Growers, Leprino Foods, and Anheuser-Busch, resulting in hundreds of lost jobs as companies choose to close or move rather than reinvest in California facilities. Longstanding firms with deep roots in the state are increasingly relocating to states like Texas and Tennessee, reflecting broader concerns about California’s economic future.
Clearly, fatigue is setting in across the world.
