So Much For Descalation

Britain and France have signed a landmark agreement committing to deploy troops to Ukraine once a ceasefire with Russia is in place, marking a major step toward a European-led “coalition of the willing.” The deal, signed in Paris by Emmanuel Macron, Sir Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelensky, includes plans for a multinational reassurance force, military hubs across Ukraine, and binding commitments to support Ukraine against future Russian aggression. The agreement was enabled by US backing, with Jared Kushner confirming President Trump’s strong support for security guarantees, while Germany signalled it may also join. Leaders described the move as Europe taking greater responsibility for its own defense, though Russia has warned it opposes any foreign troop presence after the war.
