Platinum, an exceptionally dense and heavy element, is resistance to tarnish, corrosion, and use as a catalyst makes this silvery/white precious metal highly valuable in industrialized economies. It is a critical component in automotive catalytic converters, electronics, medical devices, and jewelry. Younger generations seek platinum for engagement rings and other fine pieces.
South Africa remains the leading producer of platinum, accounting for over 70% of the world's production. Russia follows as the second-largest producer, contributing around 11% of global output. Zimbabwe ranks third, producing approximately 8% of the global supply. Canada and the United States also contribute to the market, with roughly 4% and 2% of the world's production, respectively.
