EU and Immigration
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán described the EU’s migration debate as a “bloodbath” and reiterated his long-standing call for stricter border controls. Speaking in Strasbourg ahead of his address to the European Parliament, Orbán argued that migrants should be stopped at the EU's external borders and only allowed in after successful asylum applications. He criticized the EU's current approach and said migrants who enter rarely leave. Orbán, who will present Hungary's EU Council presidency, also positioned himself as a strong leader in times of crisis, claiming the EU faces greater challenges now than during his previous presidency in 2011.
