Sanctions on Russia are likely to increase gas prices because Russia is one of the world’s largest exporters of natural gas and oil. When sanctions restrict its ability to sell or transport these resources—by limiting exports, blocking financial transactions, or cutting access to key markets—the global supply of gas decreases. With less supply available, especially to energy-dependent regions like Europe, prices rise due to increased competition for alternative sources. Additionally, uncertainty and geopolitical tensions caused by sanctions often drive speculative price spikes in global energy markets.
