A high percentage of our readers, followers, and subscribers fail to adhere to the Evolution of the Trade (EOT), our rules of engagement that defines the strict discipline necessary to survive. This majority, unfortunately, solidifies their role as bag holders rather than flourishing and thriving.
Don't Think, Follow The Invisible Hand
According to the National Corn Growers Association, inflation-adjusted corn production costs have been consistently high since 2012, with only two past periods—1975–1985 and 2012–2016—showing higher costs than 2022–2025. Despite high costs, corn prices were low in most years except 2012, 2021, and 2022. The NCGA is working to boost corn demand while also analyzing persistently high input costs.

It’s a tough time to be a farmer. No shit!, says Captain Obvious. The O/I Oscillator, our computer-generated measure of farming profitability, is not only negative but also trending lower (see chart below). At these levels, turning a profit is extremely difficult, if not impossible, without effective hedging strategies. Now is a time for caution, not expansion.
