Board of Peace
More than 10 countries have agreed in principle to join President Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” for Gaza, though only the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, Hungary and Canada have publicly confirmed participation. The board, chaired by Trump, would include world leaders and allow countries to become permanent members by contributing up to $1 billion, while others may give far less. The White House says nearly all funds raised would support the board’s Gaza mandate, separate from broader reconstruction efforts.
The administration hopes to formalize the board at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Trump has also floated expanding its role beyond Gaza, potentially as an alternative to the United Nations. However, the initiative faces resistance from U.S. allies amid broader tensions, including disputes over Greenland and trade threats against France. Despite these challenges, the White House maintains the board will be central to implementing Trump’s Gaza peace and development plan.
